kpr printapen maintenance
1) Text/characters not printing OR missing row of dots.
1a) Incorrectly fitted cartridge.
Remove and refit the cartridge, it may be misaligned.
1b) Jet(s) blocked in ink cartridge
First, try PURGING the jets using "Test PRINTAPEN" (at logon). Direct the PRINTAPEN to a piece of scrap paper. PURGE is operated by holding the button on the PRINTAPEN down for two seconds. The light on the PRINTAPEN will flash as the purge occurs to indicate that the purge is complete. A small amount of ink should spray through the jets onto the paper. To repeat the PURGE the button must be depressed again.
Second, try a mechanical PURGE by removing the cartridge. There are two small apertures in the ink-sac chamber. Try gently pushing a blunt object (say a paperclip) through the aperture to press the ink-sac. This should flood the surface of the print head with ink. Wipe away the ink with a lint-free cloth and replace the cartridge in the PRINTAPEN.
Third, if the cartridge has not been used for some time the jetsmay have dried up. Try touching a very lightly moistened cloth (water only) on the print head. This may be achieved without removing the cartridge, by use of cottonbuds or similar.
1c) Contaminated electrical contacts
Remove the cartridge and, very gently, clean the contacts of both the cartridge and the pen with a lightly moistened soft cloth (water only).
1d) Empty or faulty ink cartridge
Replace the cartridge - please note that the ink-sac will not look discharged.
2) Jerky or broken text, missing characters or large gaps.
2a) Pen-slip by operator. Either movement of PRINTAPEN not smooth or too rapid, or document slipping from holder.
2b) Insufficient power is a possible cause. Please read the section on battery management. Try using a different set of batteries which are known to be reliable to test the print.
2c) There maybe a fault in the PRINTAPEN movement detection system. Please return the PRINTAPEN to KPR.
3) Light fails to come on when text is sent to the PRINTAPEN.
3a) Most likely insufficient power available - please read the advice on battery management.
Try using a different set of batteries which are known to be reliable to test the fault - if the light still fails please return the PRINTAPEN to KPR as detailed below.
deccs
1) deccs notepad inoperable.
Find the PREMISE.TWN within C:\KPR\DATA. From the Windows start button select RUN and at the prompt type the following C:\KPR\ISAMREPR C:\KPR\DATA\PREMISE.TWN and then press Enter. This will repair the premise file to enable DECCS to continue. The message will notify the user if any records have been lost. If this does not work you can rename the PREMISE.TWN file to PREMBAD.TWN and DECCS will ignore the notepad altogether. We may be able to recover the notepad if the user sends us the files PREMISE.TWN and TWNOTES.TWN.
